Real life - Vacation
paris7am @ 04:59pm
A quick note - we're heading out the door, off on "vacation". We're heading back home to Portland to spend time with our family, and then up to Priest Lake in northern Idaho. I don't know how I'll manage to get online, but knowing me I'll *have* to figure out a way to get back and connect with all of you and the Pros world! We'll be back on the 12th.
Huge thanks to
byslantedlight, who has been fabulous enough to take over the newsletter while I'm away - I cannot say how thankful I am!

Book excerpts
paris7am @ 01:48am
Here are some Pros and Pros related excerpts from books - from way back when I had time to play online... The publishers certainly know how to entice one to buy the book, usually cutting passages off right in the middle of the best bit! I keep waiting for the day when I have time to sit down and write down my reactions to these, but that day may never come, so I'm just posting them.
Action TV: Tough Guys, Smooth Operators and Foxy Chicks by Bill Osgerby, Anna Gough-Yates (US$120.00!!)
This one has an entire chapter devoted to the Pros, called '' Drop Everything ... Including Your Pants! " The Professionals and 'Hard' Action TV by Leon Hunt. Here are images of the pages they supply online.
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6
(This bit stirs up so many thoughts... I like the way he focusses in on the issues surrounding their bodies - that the characters' bodies are 'owned', conflating that with the actor's bodies being owned and then carrying it further into the realm of fanfiction and the issue of ownership.)

and one which has a few bits about Lewis, but is more to do with LC's father, Bill (who I find is a fascinating character too)
Without You: The Tragic Story of Badfinger by Dan Matovina
That "old fellow" was William Daniel Collins, better known as Bill Collins. ( Read more... )
(I think that the rumours were always out there, but this is the first time I've seen it in print - that LC and his father had a 'stormy' relationship, even back then. It helps make their later problems more understandable. I've always wondered what it must have been like for LC to have a father like BC when he was playing the role of Bodie. Organizing printed stories: First Step
paris7am @ 04:37pm
A huge thank you to everyone who responded and for all of the excellent advice and great ideas. Thank you for inspiring and encouraging me, too!
Looking at the size of my "problem" I think that I'm going to have to utilize a number of your strategies. I think that I'll start out with hanging files and manilla file folders to organize loose pages - alpha by author and then title. After that, I may move large collections of single authors into a) three hole punch binders or b) the express mail envelopes which I can seal. I'm still trying to determine *where* all of this can find a home - but when I do, I think that will help determine how to handle and organize the bound zines.
Here's the opening chapter - the "before" shots. I hope that I'll have much better "after" shots to share, soon!

Organizing printed stories
paris7am @ 12:26am
Tiny Book by B_Zedan
One of my principle joys in life is being able to print out Pros stories and read them at my leisure. Completely wrapped up in 'books'. Even though these print outs are *precious* to me, they seem to end up in piles, in boxes - out of order - and if I want to locate a specific story? I might as well print it out again! I don't have access to much bindery equipment, but I've tried stapling (3 on the left hand side) to make informal bindings. Even though these are an improvement, I still feel that there must be a better way. I would love to be able to figure out how to label bound prints on their 'spines' so they'd be easy to locate, for example.
I need help. Do any of you have ideas, suggestions or ways in which you've solved these issues? Are you happy with your system of organizing printed out stories? How *are* your stories organized: by author; by category; by favourites? How do you keep your print outs a manageable size? How do you keep the process affordable? Have any of you found ways in which to maintain the privacy of your slash collection while keeping it accessible?
Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Old articles - rumours of return every ten years?
paris7am @ 11:55am
I remember hearing about these articles before - on Dave Matthew's site? - but I don't remember reading the actual texts. I found them online and thought I'd put them up in case others hadn't read them either. Both make mention of the Pros being resurrected - as a movie and as a series...
COULD BODIE AND DOYLE MAKE IT TO THE BIG SCREEN?
Wednesday 16 April 1997
There's definitely something about the old TV series - and particularly
British ones - that is driving Hollywood wild at the moment. The Saint
is about to become the next big draw at the Box Office and a big screen
version of The Avengers in the making with Uma Thurman and Ralph
Fiennes cast in the leading roles.

More than 20 years after it launched his TV career, The Professionals
is returning to our screens. A modern version of the cult show is being
created by the composer Laurie Johnson, whose firm Gainsborough
Pictures made the original.

I've fallen under his unique spell and - although I'm a day late - it seems the perfect time to post Blue Song by Mint Royale - one of my favourite bits of Noel (although it's really impossible to chose). Wishing Noel many, many *lovely* returns of the day.

Reading "The White Cloth"
paris7am @ 11:30pm
Other things have been keeping me away, but I still have time to read in the wee hours. I just finished reading The White Cloth by Nell Howell which never fails to capture me. Unfortunately I can't seem to compose any commentary that comes close to doing justice to these passages... and time's too short... Just place saving these beauties. (warning - spoilers)
. . . . . .
All the observant watcher caught was the seepage: a hint of anger, a touch of bewilderment, a trace of pain. And, to the discerning eye, loneliness a palpable aura around the man, like a shadow stitched to him, a dark constant companion.

Ahhh, the brilliance... like a shadow stitched to him.... . . . . .
How to bear with the aloneness again? It had yawned there at his feet, a black engulfing threat. Except he hadn't been alone, not with Bodie there, arm resting heavily over his shoulder. He'd thrown him off, tried to leave, but it was like he'd been rent open and he could see deep inside himself to the need he had for someone of his own. And nestled in there, inside himself, was already someone of his own. All he'd had to do was stop and wait. He hadn't even had to turn around. Or gesture. Or do anything but wait. And Bodie had come to him immediately.
. . . . . .
Keep him from thinking. About the growing panic in himself whenever his thoughts strayed towards realising just how long Bodie had been away. About what might be going on for all this time. About whether his partner would ever come back, and what the hell he would do when Bodie did.
He was standing in front of the open wardrobe in his bedroom contemplating getting out of his clothes and into the bath but really staring at the space where Bodie had left some things. Shirts and trousers that he had dragged from the hangers, stuffed into a carrier bag, and dumped inside Bodie's locker at work. So much for knife-edge pleats.
The trouble with temper, like adrenaline rushes, was that when the moment was over, you were just left feeling empty. An emptiness rather like this space in the cupboard where Bodie's few things had hung. He'd removed the clothes, removed Bodie's presence from here, from his room, his own place, but there was no removing the space left behind. It lingered, a canker of nothingness at the heart of his home and he couldn't seem to do anything about it.
. . . . . .
And his dark nemesis, his dark desire, the dark need in his soul, pushed away from the wall and walked to stand in front of him and gently, oh so gently, cupped his face in both hands and lifted until their eyes met.
"You look terrible."
Aaaahhh, the schmoop in me goes wild...
. . . . . .
Bodie's eyes, still set on him, suddenly crinkled and his mouth hitched up at the corners. "First a low blow, then an argument about semantics. Now I know I'm home."
He felt a bloom of warmth treacherously threatening to unfurl within himself at the possessive, protective, desirous glow in the dark eyes.
. . . . . . .

And caught there, in a light that seemed too dazzling and a darkness that was too alluring, he spoke more of his truth because he had nothing else. Just as he'd spoken his truth months before, which had made Bodie leave him. And he kept his eyes open, awaiting the same result, drawing on the calmness of the self-immolator even as he wore the executioner's hood.
"I never said it was a bird. Or a stranger."
"What? But...."
Only a moment until Bodie had his breathing under control. He felt the old surge of pride in his partner's strength, in the way the will matched the body. He met the narrowed eyes evenly, recognising the slightly manic light in them now, awaiting the inevitable next question.
"Who?"
I *cannot* resist Doyle, in this excruciating situation, still seeing Bodie's strength, still feeling it...
. . . . . . .

Need your strength in my arms, and you at my back, and the bright hard spear of your mind piercing me and prodding me. Even need you taunting me to jog with you on those bleeding cold mornings, always challenging me, you are. Never had a challenge like you before in my life.
All the adventures I thought I'd had, all the life I thought I'd lived, and I found more challenge in the little finger of a difficult sod of an ex-copper than I'd ever imagined possible.
This bit of Bodie's unspoken declaration to Doyle always hits me. I'm amazed at NH, being able to incorporate phrases like "bright hard spear... piercing me" which are usually laughable...

George Gently
paris7am @ 10:50pm
Thanks to a good friend I was able to watch Martin Shaw's new project, George Gently.
In general, I try to just enjoy something the first time I see it, watch it through, take it in... you know. BUT, if Martin is in it, all bets are off. Within a few seconds of George Gently I knew I was in trouble - I had already succumbed to capturing a screenshot, and it went downhill from there. I think that I understand the plot, followed the story - I was able to laugh at a few funny lines, even - but it's impossible really when all I can do is FEAST my eyes on his familiar exquisite expressions and mannerisms.
*Spoilerish warning* As I said, I'm completely unreliable for any comment about the actual show, but my impression was that it was a nicely done crime drama, interesting characters - the only unusual bit that I *think* I noticed was that the script seemed to call for more of a 'noir' visual quality (to me), and the amazingly vibrant wild beauty of the cinematography seemed to really not fit it somehow. (Not that it matters, as long as MS is in the shot...) I can see the characters being explored and deepened in a longer series - I hope that they'll continue it. That said, I didn't have any great emotional attachment to the main players - they sort of skirted about on the surface very briefly or else were treated with such old cliches that it flipped into non-emotion. The side characters, however, were lovely! As
shooting2kill pointed out, how can you resist homoerotic themes and all of those young men in leather on bikes!
One of the best lines, I thought, came when the villain is about to execute an innocent bystander... the bystander cries “I’ve got kids,” and Mr. Villain replies, “Yeah? Well, I’m an orphan and it hasn’t done me any harm!" Hee! My favourite emotional scene I won't get into because it's far too spoilerish, but as far as humour goes, I adored the bit when Gently and Bacchus meet in the hotel and discuss homophobia. The waiter in the scene, the responses, are brilliantly funny. And the interplay between G and B - “I wonder if some form of electro-shock therapy would work?” G says to B. “Nah,” B says, “They’ll still be queer at the end of it.” “I meant for you,” G says. Yeah! Pity they make such a production of G and B's heterosexuality throughout... it might have been nice to have a subtler approach.
And now, on to Martin Shaw... Just look at him!

Doyle - favourite images
paris7am @ 01:58am
How many thousands of words have been written, trying to describe the changeable features of Ray Doyle? I'm not even going to begin to try it, myself - just to say that he's mesmering, he's kaleidoscopic, and all you can expect is that in the next moment he will probably have a completely different aspect. Maybe that's why pictures of him hold such power - they capture that instant of pure *Doyle* - or at least that *flavour* of pure Doyle that you've been hungry for.
A few images which capture some of the qualities I'm forever looking for in him...

The Purging look - couldn't explain it for the world - just know that when I see him in this series of shots with his hair fragged out and the orange glow, I melt. Is it the softness around his mouth?

Pros Slash Proliferation Challenge: Mouth to Mouth
paris7am @ 03:09am

Their lips. If only I was a poet, I might be able to find words to at least approach describing how beautiful I find them. I think that Doyle's mouth was the first one I noticed - with his incredibly full, curved lips - but when I saw Bodie's, it was clear that his mouth is just as uniquely beautiful. Without speaking a word, their mouths are amazingly expressive - conveying so much: humour, anger, tenderness, concentration, defeat, joy... They're so beautiful individually that it's only natural to consider what kind of explosion of gorgeousness must happen when they're together...
Thinking about stories in which their mouths feature prominently, Watching His Mouth by Georgina Kirrin came immediately to mind! A brilliant brilliant story. I somehow think that almost every story has some mention of their mouths, so it was very difficult to decide what excerpts to use here...
Down to the Waterline by Sebastian for
Bodie's hands were cold, but his lips were warm as fire on Doyle's cheek, his throat, taking his mouth softly, then suddenly, fiercely. ( Read more... )

Pros Slash Proliferation Challenge: Happiness is a Warm Gun
paris7am @ 01:56am
Bodie and Doyle - so many phallic symbols, so little time! Their cars, the bikes between their legs, even those giant camera lenses, r/t's, foils, army tanks, Bodie's battering ram... But the ultimate phallic symbol has to be the gun. (See the vid, "Detachable Penis"!)
The "gun as phallic symbol" concept is obviously well known... there are a myriad of ways in which guns and sexuality are linked. I used the Beatles song in the title - unreleased recordings include the lyric, "When I hold you in my arms and feel my finger on your trigger..." Shiver. Or the simple term, to cock a gun... I cannot even scratch the surface of this topic, and I don't feel this way about guns in real life, but in the world of the Pros I find them highly erotic. I'm captivated by harnesses, alone!
From the "flash" weapons - the M180, or the custom gun in Long Shot - to their faithful ever-present sidearms - in their hands, handled with skill and ease, positioned in ways which immediately bring to mind cocks, they are ultimately seductive. ( Read more... )

Then it was there. The gun. Inches of cold metal, warm only where Bodie's hand clutched it proficiently enough to do some serious damage. But there was nothing but trust shining in murky green eyes, the colour almost swallowed by the dilation of his pupils. There, running over his inside thigh, pressing and pushing, scraping over his jeans and the sensitive flesh beneath. ( Read more... )

Pros Slash Proliferation Challenge: Sunshine, on Your Shoulders
paris7am @ 02:00am
I fear that I will never be able to do justice to this topic -
the sheer power and beautiful form of Bodie and Doyle's arms and shoulders.
Arms and shoulders - whether in each other's arms, or armed... shoulder to shoulder or shouldering more than their fair load - each of them exceed expectations. As always, there are a myriad examples in stories of authors who paint these parts with magic - if only I had the time! Here are a few, starting with what I consider to be the golden standard of all arm scenes - Bodie cannot stop himself from tasting Doyle's arm... moving on to a delightful seductive exploration and finishing with a glimpse of their capable and deadly power.

Pros Slash Proliferation Challenge: The Shower
paris7am @ 01:57am
When Bodie and Doyle are anywhere near a bath or a shower, chances are good that the sweetest, hottest sex will be happening soon... I personally love the tantalizing idea of showers at HQ - those pre-slash surreptitious glances and awakening attraction happening to streaming hot naked skin. Then there are the post-op ablutions, washing off the blood and bruises, taking comfort in the warmth and in each other - that tender/hot and sometimes desperate celebration of being alive... I also love scenarios in which one must help the other to bathe because of injury? - the gorgeous building of tension and heat. Yes, so many insanely powerful slash scenarios centered around the shower! Here's a sampling for your enjoyment...

So happy
paris7am @ 02:34am
I just wanted to say that this amazing burgeoning of Pros (and all of you!) have me wandering around in a daze of happiness. Even though Murphy's Law strikes, and real life is crazy busy right when I most want to be here, I cannot help but feel that *immense* love for Bodie and Ray. Couldn't wipe the dreamy expression off of my face if I tried, because I've got *them* inhabiting my psyche, floating in the colour of the air.
Pros Slash Proliferation Challenge: The Allure of Alleys
paris7am @ 01:55am
Uncontrolled, fierce, reckless sex in alleys... Bodie and Doyle do it arrestingly.

The forces keeping them apart - society, small print, prejudice - present a tantalizing seriousness to their decision to be together, but when it's topped with passion so powerful and abandoned that they willingly risk it all, *cannot* will not wait another instant... wooosh! Here are the preludes to just two of the intensely hot alley sex scenes we are so fortunate to have.

The next step between them, the hunger fed, the need met, the sweet aching of their bodies sheathed in one another. It was there, all over Doyle's face, in his eyes, in the painful bulge of his jeans. Words stoppered in his throat by the flashflood of lust, Bodie moved to Doyle, grabbing him by the arm as he passed, never slowing his steps for a second. ....
Sex.
They were going to fuck, and the knowledge flowed between them without need for word, the undulating desire alive between them as tacitly and perfectly as the unison in which they worked. Shoulder to shoulder, hip to hip, they walked on into the darkness of the alley...
Back Alley by L. A. Scotian
"Come on, doesn't it turn you on; being out here. Someone might walk by at any moment, see us." He smiled in victory at the response that pulsed against his palm. Doyle who flaunted himself at the slightest provocation, was almost his. Bodie had planned this moment in his fantasies; known that if anything could bind that wildness to himself then it would be danger and risk and need. To be certain he moved deeper into the shadows. "Besides, I'll never make it home in this state." He took Doyle's unresisting hand and pressed it to himself.
Feeling the hardness throb against his fingers, Doyle was lost. His voice was foreign, desperate; the sound of a man past the point of no return. "Fuck me then."
All initiative ruthlessly overcome he was breathless as Bodie's hands unsnapped his jeans, moaning as the damp zip was forced down. He stifled a cry as his cock was released to the night air. Scarcely able to support himself he clung to the wall. He felt gauche, inept; as if the darkness of Bodie's past gave him sexual wisdom undreamed of by a city child.
It also made his blood flow like fire.
To make love in a doorway.
With Bodie.

Pros Slash Proliferation Challenge: His Neck
paris7am @ 12:29am
There are so many delicious erotic parts that we get to feel, taste, bite, smell - but I confess that I have a great weakness for Bodie's neck. Perhaps it's because of how he keeps it so well covered beneath polo-necks much of the time, secreted, seductively hidden. When it *does* appear, it has a tremendous impact on me. And when this arrousing area comes up in a story...

The room is made entirely of sensation--the cool cotton against his
back, Bodie's flesh against his belly, hard cock slick against his
own. There is a silence that is nothing like silence, made up of the
small sounds of making love--a graceful exhale, an intake of breath
when a fingernail edges along a perfect spine, a full-bodied moan of
pleasure. Everywhere the wet, warm sounds of skin meeting skin, lips
bruising one another gently in the dark. Doyle can smell Bodie's skin,
musk and leather, an undercurrent of sweat and Doyle can't imagine
anything more perfect than the taste of Bodie's skin beneath his
tongue. His daydreams were never this good. He laps lazy circles
against Bodie's neck, memorizes each curve and angle, knows he wants
to spend a lifetime worshipping this man with his body. He'll die
protecting him if it comes to that. Which it likely will.
When he comes it's with Bodie's hand around his cock, Bodie's mouth
open and wet against his shoulder, the sound of his name tumbling from
Bodie's lips. It washes over him, pushes him past the edge of feeling
into another place entirely. It's like floating and drowning all at
once. Bodie kisses him sweetly, murmurs something that sounds like
love, and settles down beside him, shoulder to shoulder.

I am eternally grateful for the many incredibly vivid, sensual scenes of neck-play in Pros Fiction...

Doyle!
paris7am @ 11:39pm
I got a surprise in the mail today - he's *stunning*!
Absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you so much,
gwyn_r!
I've been trying to remember if this top was worn in any episodes...
Haven't put him up yet, but took some pictures to share.
One with flash, one without, and the true colour is in between, I think.

Martin, Martin, Martin...
paris7am @ 04:46pm
-A very quick drive-by post -
I was completely unprepared to see this image of Martin - it stunned me.

He's just too -------- for belief! (Fill in the blank with whatever words you can think of...)
But, but, who is this otherslag man in the car with him? Get out! And doesn't he just ooze the slashy sensation?
Okay, I prefer his hair another way, but look at the vein in his arm, the tones that red brings out in his skin, the softness of his lips, the cocky tilt in his posture... ahhhh.
The picture is from The Martin Shaw Scrapbook, from the page on "The Most Dangerous Man in the World".
(Exceedingly dangerous to me, that is in no doubt!)
I was reading Courtney Gray's story Griffin but I haven't seen Cassidy, and I kept having trouble figuring out who is who in the story, and ran into this picture while researching.

Lewis Collins - Ancestors
paris7am @ 11:22pm
It's another piece to the Lewis Collins puzzle! After I posted the Timeline, I received an email from Carla in Scotland, which explained that she was researching Lewis Collins' ancestors. She offered to share them when completed - and she has! This is the fruit of a tremendous amount of research and time - many, many thanks to Carla.

If the print is difficult to read or there are any other difficulties, let me know and I'll do my best to fix it. (This is my first time working with a graphic this large, online!) Carla mentioned that if anyone has questions or further information, to please comment - I'll put you in touch with her. I believe that this is just the *direct* line and she has more information. This has also been added to the Timeline.

Valentine: Halves
paris7am @ 08:58pm

If any one should importune me to give a reason why I loved him I feel it could no otherwise be expressed than by making answer, 'Because it was he; because it was I.'
...we found ourselves so mutually pleased with one another - we became at once mutually so endeared - that thenceforward nothing was so near to us as one another.
Common friendships will admit of division, one may love the beauty of this, the good humor of that person, the liberality of a third, the paternal affection of a fourth, the fraternal love of a fifth, and so on. But this friendship that possesses the whole soul, and there rules and sways with an absolute sovereignty, can admit of no rival....
In good earnest, if I compare all the rest of my life with the four years I had the happiness to enjoy the sweet soclety of this excellent man, 'tis nothing but smoke, but an obscure and tedious night. We were halves throughout...

Photography with words

( art )
Luis Alejandro at Rugby Days gave this translation of the text.
Like a tongue in flames, I surround the immensity of your body.
Your giving, a gift from a crazy god.
It transforms me day to day,
in this hunting animal, in this beast
that takes and destroys you
when our bodies collide
and frees our carnal fight
in which all is fair and were it doesn't matter who wins.
The spasm sets in, like a victorious flag
and covers with sweat from our faces
and eases our exhausted hearts ready to begin all over again...
Makes me long to know more languages, to be able to have experiences in the original tongue.
Tongue. Lengua.
What I love best are the paired fingertips.

Reading
paris7am @ 12:19am
I think that I may be the slowest fan around.
All this time I've hesitated about reading gen stories --
pre-slash? okay, but gen, well...
I suppose that it *does* vary widely, from author to author and story to story,
but really, for me reading gen is like watching canon.
It's up for debate just how "gen" Pros canon is, but
I have my extra large framed gay-focal slash lenses permanently attached,
and whatever happens in a gen plot, I'm seeing right through it to
what I perceive to be the *true* story...
